A mulch calculator answers the question that every gardener and landscaper asks before spreading a single shovel of mulch: "Given the area of my garden bed and the desired depth, how many cubic yards or bags should I buy?"

The "Bulk" Standard: Mulch is typically sold by the Cubic Yard (bulk) or by the box/bag (2-3 cubic feet). One cubic yard covers approximately 100 square feet at 3 inches deep.
